about
I was inspired to write this song during the summer of 2016. During that period, I was battling a severe bout of depression and sinking further into anonymity. On one of my better days, I started thinking about how all I ever really wanted to do was live my life for God. Everything I was and aspired to be, I wanted to offer it up to the Father as a sacrifice pleasing to Him. Previously, I put everything and everybody before Him. I slowly started to realize that it was my relationship with Him that enabled and empowered me to be all the things that he called me to be, i.e., a man, a husband, a father, a musician, a teacher, etc.
Shortly thereafter, I started to hear remnants of the melody to this song. I laid some harmony underneath it and voila, "For You" was birthed. Two years passed and I never performed or recorded it. One night, maybe January or February 2017, I decided to write the chords on a napkin for my guitarist and friend Hunter Hendrickson. We played it as a duet in a room of about 8 people. The response we got was overwhelming and surprising, with everyone agreeing on how beautiful it was and inquiring about where/if it could be purchased. A few months later, May 2017, I decided to get together with Hunter at his home studio and record a very stripped down, minimalistic version of the song. I sincerely hope you enjoy it and please feel free to share it as you so desire.
